- Your above points are true. The Amiga lacks memory protection. But to
- call it a toy operating system is stretching it quite a bit. I guess your
- only basis for this is the lack of memory protection. This should be
- rectifiable soon.

- Well given that if PowerAmigas do come out the OS will have to rewritten,
- there is a good chance that things like memory protection will be put
- into the new version. Support for VM in the OS is also something a people
- also consider a requirement for "real" operating system. Its not that big
- of an issue in the Amiga because for the most part 16 megs is usually
- more than enough to run even multiple copies of complex software on the
- Amiga. That's not to say that there are some applications that could use
- it. (Imagemaster with multiple 24 bit pictures, Lightwave creating very
- complex scenes etc...). But for the most part memory requirements on the
- Amiga are much lower than comparable stuff on Macs/PCs.
-
- As for 2 years. Hmm... Well I would be sticking my neck out a bit given
- the current flux in AT owners but I think the schedule for a PPC version
- of the Amiga OS is first quarter 97, with other companies comming out
- with PowerPC boards and parts of the OS (graphics in particular) during
- this summer or fall. Lets see what happens...
